- go to setting and disable "use shell"
- change a file name eg. from test.txt to TEST.txt
-> message File already exists. Overwrite Yes.
-> Error: Paths are equal
renaming file like this works using shell or in winexplorer.

I don't understand what kind of improvement this could be. I used to work in JM, and it works correctly in other FM like XY, FC and win explorer.
I use a single JM installation in a multiple OS environment, so I have set C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Desktop as a favorite which then used to work no matter of the actual user name.

does not behave exactly as win explorer where pressing ESC deselects file/folder showing 'normal' icon again.

In this situation checkbox doesn't affect anything.
correct. shell dialog displays "delete" and not move to rec.bin. therefore a minor issue, possibly worth fixing.

ok, crash is 100% reproducible, even in virt.machine.
steps to reproduce:
change settings as written in post #1
navigate to a folder which contains many files & folders
set view to "list"
press a char to filter
press "ESC" right after
-> crash

JM a47 crashes quite often when filtering
my settings: Type: Filter, Shortcut: Letter, Starts with filter (checked)

select a bunch of files (I have selected 13) then do a multi rename (I changed the extension only)
now the 13 files are no longer selected. (in my case only 3 were still selected)
keeping the selection is important for following file operations like move & copy or whatever one would like to do
with the selected files after renaming them.

after pressing "Rename" the dialog is auto-closed immediately.
sometimes I need to rename files in multiple steps, therefore the dialog should be kept open until pressing "Close" or "ESC".

Suppose this exe file used by any other application/system component.
that's not the case. though this seems to be in deed an issue with my computer, as I receive error messages outside JM:
please close this report, I need to figure out what's wrong with my computer.

atm file ops via drag & drop work for Favorites but not for system folders:
with this limitation one needs to add "Desktop" to Favorites thus having two Desktop entries in Favs and sys folder in order to have drag & drop functionality.

I cannot longer delete an executable file. file is not read-only, and I have admin privileges. deletion works in win explorer.

I changed my settings like shown here:
now when pressing the delete button I get a different message box comparing when pressing DEL where in the latter case
I get a "this function is not supported" message. BTW I deleted settings.xml to avoid error caused by "corrupt" settings file.

Yes, it doesn't display icon, because there is no icon in exe resources.
I know, I've checked that. Though instead of no icon the main toolbar should display icon #11 from imageres.dll.

I'm not sure whether this is a bug or not yet implemented. copy & paste an existing file pops up a dialog with various options.

the list view displays the standard icon for dos applications with no icon. the main toolbar does not.

the tabs are not the issue, maybe i've deleted the paths manually, but fore sure I didn't touch the date_time_format.

Hard to implement, because such functionality will require ownerdrawing. That's why hidden files/folders don't use grayed icons too.
